Prototyping Services for Product Development

The first prototype following the engineering of a product design is an exciting moment.

Seeing a design in real life for the first time gives the opportunity to review, evaluate and refine the product to ultimately resolve and finalise the details. Testing a prototype provides feedback and validation or opportunities to improve things before progressing into manufacture.

Prototyping requirements vary and we look to use processes and materials that replicate as closely as possible the production parts. The processes we regularly use are SLS, SLA, FDM (all types of 3D printing) as well as CNC machining and hand made fabrications. Whatever the intended material and process for the manufactured part we can specify an equivalent prototyping technique to suit.

As well as physical testing we are able to provide virtual validation of a design through the use of Finite Element Analysis and Simulations. This is useful for testing loading and strength of a part as well as impact resistance and fatigue caused during use. With a method for evaluating and testing any product we can ensure as much is done as possible to validate the design before moving into manufacture.

At the heart of everything we do

It’s said that 80% of a product’s environmental impact is determined in the design stage. Due to this the designer has a responsibility to act with as much care and integrity as the client and project brief will allow. At TRIG we always look to minimise the impact a product has on the environment by using tools and techniques such as life cycle analysis and minimal material construction and making clients aware of their role and responsibilities when it come to end of life considerations for a new product.

Materials, manufacture, distribution, use and eventual end of life are all phases where a mass manufactured product leaves a mark on the environment. By careful consideration, utilisation of sustainable practices and education of others involved in the development process this impact can be minimised.
