Ritchey wanted to enter the market with a new, revolutionary tagging applicator and tag system that allowed the user to load 10 tags and apply them to multiple animals before the need to reload. This new way of tagging would speed up the process for the farmer and through the use of twin shot moulding allow the strip if tags to have alternate colours meaning an ID and EID tag could be put in each ear of an animal in quick succession.

To become aware of the process and challenges faced by the farmer when tagging sheep, we attending multiple farm visits and got hand on tagging animals with the traditional method. This allowed us firsthand experience of the problems and frustration the farmer encounters and allowed us the insight to make improvements for the end user in the design stages.

Following our Concept Generation and Design and Engineering stages we produced numerous prototypes of the design and testing them live on farm trials to improve and fine tune the function and durability of the product before moving to manufacture. On this project we were asked to source and commission the production tooling for the applicator and supplied Ritchey with final assembled product for sale.

Launched at a large organised event to the trade and farming community, the Autotagger was well received by the sector and enjoyed success as one of only a few systems capable of delivering a continuous supply of tags to the farmer when tagging a large flock of sheep.
